Another Prayer for Pride Month

A Prayer for my friends who celebrate Pride Month:

LORD of Love and Light revealed to us in the face of Jesus Christ: We give you humble thanks for how we see your Love and Light revealed in the diversity of our sisters and brothers of different sexualities, genders, cultures, and colors. We take pride in how your Divine Life is displayed in our siblings who are gay and straight, transgender and cisgender, and everywhere on the spectrum in between. And just as you showed your sign of Love for all humanity in the rainbow you displayed to Noah, and just as you appeared in all the colors of the rainbow in the vision of the prophet Ezekiel, so now we take the rainbow as a sign of how your Light shines through all of our lives and experiences, in all our beautiful diversity. Spread your rainbow over us now as a banner of Love, that our love for one another may show us how to live into the fullness of Christ’s Love for all. We pray this in the power of his Spirit. Amen.

A Prayer inspired by an earlier Prayer for Pride Month I wrote, along with:

Genesis 9.16
God says: When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.

Ezekiel 1.28
Like the rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day, such was the appearance of God’s splendor all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.

Song of Solomon 2.4
Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love.

1Corinthians 12.26–27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a member of it… If one member suffers, every member suffers with it; if one member is honored, every member rejoices with it.

Romans 13.8
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves the other has fulfilled the law.

1John 4.7–8
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is Love.

This is a bunch of incoherent babble to make us think hard about our incredible love affair with the God of the universe, our astounding infidelities against God, and God's incredible grace to heal and restore us through Christ.
