When Jesus wrote

Jesus only ever wrote down
one thing
and it vanished from the ground
taken by the wind
washed away by the water
just like the shame
of the woman caught in sin

When I wrote this I was pondering how we worship Jesus-- God's Word made human-- and yet we keep trying to encapsulate that Word into words: words of Scripture, words of law, words of doctrine, words of dogma. When the fact is, the Word made flesh was content to have His words disappear the moment He wrote them in the sand. The lasting memorial He sought was not his Word made into words, but his Word made flesh, as his liberated life liberated others to live a liberated life.

This is a bunch of incoherent babble to make us think hard about our incredible love affair with the God of the universe, our astounding infidelities against God, and God's incredible grace to heal and restore us through Christ.
